George is my great great grandfather. He and Libbie's daughter Pearl was my great grandmother.
Hi, I am descended from Thomas Cakebread and his 2nd wife Mary Toner Montgomery (her 2nd marriage). Please note that many births of the period 1860-1865...... WERE NOT RECORDED FOR STATEN ISLAND. Also this was during the Civil War. The William Cakebread listed in the 1870 household of Thomas may or may NOT be George William Cakebread......... Thomas first wife Elizabeth died 1865 and was buried in Green-wood cemetery in Brooklyn. Note calculated birth year from the census would be 1863. I do lots of family research but to date I have not found any conclusive evidence to prove George's parentage. Why was there no contact with the family in New York ?? True there were few Cakebread families in New York City from 1850-1870 ... Thomas and Mary seem to have been in Philadelphia (daughter Susan born and died in Philadelphia) and New York City .... so I keep searching.
