Jack entered Adrian College in Adrian, MI. and graduated in 1949. During his
college years he worked for Montgomery Wards as a stroller maker and for
A&P as a stock boy. Jack married
Helen Knight of Adrian in 1949. They
set up their household initially in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and thereafter lived
in Belleville and Wayne.
While
raising his children, he was active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving
as a leader of that group while his children were members.
Since his
retirement, Jack has renewed his interest in golf. Jack and his wife Helen
now travel the country, doing volunteer work for a Christian organization
called MMAP. Church affiliation:
Baptist, Congregational, Episcopal. Jack joined the Masons in 1996 and became
a Master Mason.
Jack passed
away from complications due to COPD under the kind care of Hospice.

John Kerr Law, 88, known as "Jack" to his family and friends,
passed away Jan. 8, 2012.
He was born
Feb. 25, 1923, in Detroit, Mich. Jack was the oldest son of John Kerr and
Pearle Evelyn (DeRoche) Law. He is survived by his children, Mark (Tracey)
Law of Saline, John (Gloria) Law of El Cerrito, Calif., James (Terry) Law of
Canton and Mary (Sam) Medrano of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jason,
Michelle, Matthew, Jeremy, Dylan and Shawn; and one great-grandson, Elijah
King Law. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Ruby (Knight)
Law, and his brother, Lindsay Law of California. He is survived by his second
wife, Helen Cox of Adrian.
Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Wagley Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Paul Herter officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood
Cemetery.
Visitation
will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12,
2012.

country to aid and rehabilitate various missions. Moved to Yuma with Jack in
starting in Feb. 1989.1996 - Active with the ECW (St. Paul's Episcopal Church
Women) in Yuma, AZ. [MAL]She died peacefully in her home of pancreatic cancer
under the care of Hospice.

My little baby
sister-yes-that’s what she was. And what a darling wee mite!. Born on a hot
summer day, August 21, 1929, just two days before our brother’s eighth
birthday, and a few months after my tenth, she was the precious darling of us
all. I thought of her as my baby doll, dressing her, fussing with her much of
the time. Our mother was ill much of her life and became more so as time went
on, as was our brother, so much of the care of “my baby” came to me. Did I
mind? No, it was a privilege and there was nothing I enjoyed more than
wheeling her about, taking her to piano lessons, to the park, shopping, etc.
We had such fun. She was quite a tomboy and dearly loved playing rough games
with our brother, too. Once when returning by foot from a downtown store I
discovered a pair of pink socks had been attached to a purchase. Not having
paid for them I knew they had to be returned, at the same time being
embarrassed, though neither of us had taken them. However, I felt she could
learn from this incident, so return them we did. When I went off to college in
Ypsilanti I took her to visit one week at the end of exams and enjoyed “showing
her off” to classmates at age seven. What a cutie!
By the time she
became more independent I was pretty much out of the home except for visits
but I could discern her interest in other people and noted-well, almost
jealously-that she had so many friends. Always well-liked by others, her
outgoing personality drew others to her, and she to them. I always called her
a free spirit, for she and the family would do what they wanted when they
wanted and it created a more interesting, fun-filled and relaxed life for the
family.
As time went by
and we all married our lives intertwined more than ever. We three siblings
happened to marry spouses whose family was either far away or deceased, so
every birthday and every holiday we spent together with our combined families
of nine children and our parents. What joyous times they were. After our dear
mother died our father took all of us camping and canoeing in northern
rivers, introducing us to the fascinating hobby of photography, which
encouraged many of our children to pursue areas of that in their lives, and
continuing to enforce a strong bond among us. That was especially nice for
our brother and me as we were rearing our children alone. But Helen was
always the constant, loving, stalwart person who could unruffle our feathers
and keep us calm and peaceful, much like our father was-always steady.
Forever smiling,
usually laughing, her children have followed that trait. Whenever they are together
there is always a lot of laughter, happy, gleeful laughter, each one enjoying
each other, traits their mother instilled in them from birth. They are such
happy people. I have been leaving out Jack, which is not meant to say he had
no part in this but, after all, this is a tribute to my sister. Never a harsh
word, never ever a demeaning word about someone else, she is friendly and
kind to all.
In later years
as they traveled about the country in their trailer, frequently meeting with
our brother, and often with me, her happy spirit caught on to us all. The fun
we had on those trips is something to write about in a book-the places we
traveled to, the fantastic things we saw, and just the fun we had being
together are treasured memories. Their several years doing mission work
around the country filled their time with working for their, and our,
heavenly Father. My brother and I often met them at their stations.
This last fight
for her life showed her true spirit-uncomplaining in spite of much pain, acceptance
of the diagnosis, but with determination to live as happily as possible in
the time left on earth. Her faith in God was prominent in her life and
continued throughout this illness. She has blessed us all.

Helen M. Cox, age 91, of Adrian passed
away Feb. 9, 2014, at Grand Court.
She was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Detroit,
Mich., to Henry and Bertha (Kadau)
Behm. Helen was married to John C. Cox and they celebrated 57 years of
marriage. After his death in 2003, she moved to Adrian in 2007. On Oct. 18,
2009, Helen was married to John “Jack” Law II, and he preceded her in death
in 2012. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Helen is survived by her two sons, David
(Ruth) Cox of Memphis, Tenn., and Michael (Maureen) Cox of Delton, Mich.;
grandsons, Jeremy and David; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Herter
of Adrian; and a brother, Donald (Marian) Behm of Florida.
A Celebration of Life service for Helen
will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Helen may be made to
the Salvation Army or ProMedica Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to
Wagley Funeral Home where online condolences and memories may be shared at

I was very
dismayed to read in the Telegram of Helen's passing. Being a sister-in-law of
Jack Law I knew her quite well.and from the moment I met her I also met (in
her) a great person, a loving one, a true Christian lady. In my visits to her
since then I discovered a woman I could emulate as a mentor and close friend.
Our many conversations are a part of the treasures I have filed in my mind,
and recall often.
My sympathy goes
out to you and her family, and I will keep you in my prayers.

John “Jack” Kerr Law III
and Helen Marie Cox already had more than a century of combined marriage
experience when they tied the knot, but Cox found another way to make Saturday’s
wedding memorable. She chose the day with a reason in mind.
“I thought if I chose
Sweetest Day, he’ll always remember it,” she said.
The two married Saturday
in the lobby of the Grand Court Adrian, where they both live. Both are 86 years
old.
It was the second
marriage for both. Law’s 56-year marriage to his first wife ended in 2006 when
she passed away from pancreatic cancer. Cox’s husband died in 2003 from lung
cancer.
The Rev. Paul Herter of
Hope Lutheran Church, who also is Cox’s nephew, conducted the ceremony.
“I’m not losing an aunt.
I’m gaining an uncle,” said Herter, who also encouraged Law — a football fan —
to regularly change his hearing device’s batteries. “I don’t want my aunt
saying to me, ‘He just won’t listen to me.’ ”
Cox walked down the
aisle escorted by grand-nephew Justin Herter, the son of the pastor. The ring
bearer was Law’s great-grandson, Elijah Law. Flower girls were sisters Makenna
and Kameron Havens, the daughters of Grand Court executive director Travis
Havens, who sang “There Is Love” during the ceremony.
Approximately 200
guests, residents and staff attended the wedding in Grand Court’s dining lobby,
transformed with hanging bouquets and balloons. The event was organized by
Alice Stiekes, the center’s life enrichment director, and staff said it was
only the second wedding at the facility.
Cox said she believes
the two of them meeting wasn’t a random occurrence, but a product of divine
intervention.
“My husband’s name was
Jack and his wife’s name was Helen,” said Cox. “It seems like it’s a
coincidence, but we feel it’s God’s purpose for our lives.”
The couple first met a
year ago at Grand Court. Cox said she first realized that Law was interested in
her after she finished with a doctor’s appointment.
“I told the receptionist
I needed to phone Dial-A-Ride and she told me, ‘Actually, there’s a gentleman
out there waiting for you,’ ” Cox said. “I looked outside and, well, there was
Jack.”
Cox and Law started
spending a lot of time together, including eating their breakfast, lunch and
dinner with each other.
“We were in church one
day and she turns to me and says, ‘You want to get married?’ ” Law said.
Cox said her mother
raised her with the belief that women shouldn’t pursue men. A woman should wait
to see if a man shows interest first and then respond.
“It amazes me because I
thought, I’m never going to live into the 21st century,” said Cox. “Well, now I’m
not only living in the 21st century but I’m getting married in it.”
The couple decided to
get married at the Grand Court because it made it easier for their friends
there to attend.
“There are people here
who can’t really get out, so they wouldn’t be able to come to the wedding if we
had it at the church,” Cox said. “I asked my nephew if we could have the
ceremony in the lobby of Grand Court for that reason and he said ‘of course.’ ”
The wedding cake was
made by Grand Court’s charge nurse, Elise Barlow, who used more than one layer
despite the bride’s wishes.
“All she wanted was a
plain sheet cake,” Barlow said. “I knew that wouldn’t do.”
Cox said both of their
families are happy for them and have shown support for their decision.
“Our children agree that
this is God’s purpose,” she said. “I want to set a good example: When two
people love each other they get married — they don’t shack up.”
Law said they plan to
the rest of their years together and keep each other happy.
“We obviously won’t have
children because of our age,” he said, laughing. “If we last five to 10 years,
to me it’s going to be a success.”
