- "Harold W. Helfrich was born at Jordan, PA, on December 31, 1897.
Parents - Edgar H.W. Helfrich, former
school teacher. school director (City of Allentown), florist, died July 30,
1933, and Emma M. Wehr Helfrich, also
a former school teacher in rural sections of Lehigh County, died
November 23, 1944. Judge Helfrich spent the first few years of
his life out at Lehigh Zion Church near
Alburtis, then his family moved to
Allentown and he has resided there since.
Attended the public schools of
Allentown; graduated from Allentown
High School with teh class of 1914; received his bachelor's degree
from Muhlenberg in 1918; graduated
from the University of Pennsylvania Law Shool in 1921; admitted to
practice in Lehigh County Courts on
Sept. 6, 1921; in 1922 served as Assistant City Solicitor under Hon. C.T.
Reno; served as Assistant D.A>
under Orrin E. Boyle from 1924 to December 31, 1927; had a private
general law practice from January 1,
1928 to December 31, 1943, when appointed to his present position
(Judge of Court of Common
Pleas-DH). Former president of Lehigh
County Bar Association, was a member
of the Board of Viewers of Lehigh
County for more than 10 years, by appointment of the Court. Was
appointed Government Appeal Agent for
Local City Board No. 1 of the Selective Service from date of
organization to date of appointment
to present position. During World War I
he served with the U.S. Navy.
Is a member of the American Legion,
as well as various other fraternal organizations. Member of Salem
Reformed Church of Allentown. Married to Hattie Diehl Helfrich, and has one
son, Harold W. Helfrich, Jr.,
who left Muhlenberg College to enter
the armed forces of the U.S., and is presently serving with the Air
Transport Command in India."
